1. Hold the rain
Last touch lingers
Burning ghost of embrace
Highways, numbing
Leaving you has a taste
So, until we see again...
I'm a shadow on the run
Hiding from the sun
Out on the waves,
Got a bird's-eye view
I'm coming home soon
Even if its grey
To find a way to you,
So hold the rain for a few
For a few
Rewind, time grinds
Miles left to ride
All that's left now
Is ringing and the drive
So, until we see again...
I'm a shadow on the run
Hiding from the sun
Out on the waves,
Got a bird's-eye view
I'm coming home soon
Even if its grey
To find a way to you,
So hold the rain for a few
For a few
2. to Hell with well
Gonna buy me a broke-down Bronco
From somewhere they don't salt the roads, salt the roads
Figure out what it is I need to know
To make that old thing go, gonna 'er go
Fix it up over ten years time
With my boys, by my side
Someday I'll do more than browse
Down at Carter's Vintage
Find a way to get my hands on
One of them brand-new old guitars, a brand-new old guitar
Once it's mine
Gonna play it all the time
With my band
By my side
Gonna drive that truck until it's rust
Gonna turn that guitar into dust
I don't care if you think I should
To Hell with well
Gonna love 'em good
Gonna love 'em good
Gonna drive that truck until it's rust
Gonna turn that guitar into dust
I don't care if you think I should
To Hell with well
Gonna love 'em good
Gonna love 'em good
3. It's a Shame
I don't keep too many friends
But I keep well the ones I've got
I find it hard to pretend
That things are what they are not
But of all the things I've learned
Perhaps there's nothing more than this
Things can often get confused
When chasing happiness or bliss
'Cause it's a shame
It's a shame
How often, I've forgotten
It's a shame
How many days
I forgot to find myself in the warmth of the sun
It may be well that I am wrong
It's probably not for me to say
But I'm done with running round
To places I don't want to stay
But of all the things I've learned
Perhaps there's nothing more than this
Things can often get confused
When chasing happiness or bliss
But it's a shame
It's a shame
How often, I've forgotten
It's a shame
How many days
I forgot to find myself in the warmth of the sun
4. Books & PIctures
Missed a turn today
The road I found brought me back to yesterday
An old beat-up van that never ran
A boss I couldn't stand
Said I'm on my way
Despite those reasons that I should have stayed
Dreams in hand without a plan
Is a lonely time for a man
Much is made of times like these
Quitting work, rolling up your sleeve
In books and pictures, magazines
When people are telling how they found their dreams
But finding out what you believe
Is never as easy as it seems
I know better
Now
Took a chance that day
Tried not to hear what people had to say
They think they know but they don't know
Said I'm on my way
Pulled out on that street I'm on today
Dreams in hand without a plan
Is a lonely time for a man
Much is made of times like these
Quitting work, rolling up your sleeve
In books and pictures, magazines
When people are telling how they found their dreams
But finding out what you believe
Is never as easy as it seems
I know better
Now
Looking back now it may seem
I found my way with such ease
But I remember on days like these
Just what it took to find these dreams
It wasn't easy, like it seems
In books & pictures, magazine
But, I know I'm better
I know I'm better
Now
5. Early Morning Buzz
We'd stay up all night
On Gardner Avenue
Debating all the issues of the day
No agenda, not yet talking heads
Round-and-round until we'd forget where it was that we began
Some mornings you would win, some mornings left your ego bruised
But, what I wouldn't give
For the hope I used to find
In a case of Lion's Head
And folks of different minds
Because though we did not share opinions
We shared that American ideal
Of friends made over arguments and an early morning buzz
I need an early morning buzz
I learned the hard way
that a simple truth told quietly
Always works better than a rant
Somewhere along the line
We seem to have forgotten
The value in sometimes being wrong.
Some days you win, some days leave your ego bruised
But, what I wouldn't give
For the hope I used to find
In a case of Lion's Head
And folks of different minds
Because though we did not share opinions
We shared that American ideal
Of friends made over arguments and an early morning buzz
I need an early morning buzz
There's hope behind the bluster
Because though Main Street may not sell
It's built on folks like you and me
So when we're having trouble seeing the human for the politics
Gotta find a better way to disagree
Some mornings you would win, some mornings left your ego bruised
But, what I wouldn't give
For the hope I used to find
In a case of Lion's Head
And folks of different minds
Because though we did not share opinions
We shared that American ideal
Of friends made over arguments and an early morning buzz
I need an early morning buzz
